City of Hattiesburg Named Most Livable Small City

June 8, 2017

The City of Hattiesburg has been named Most Livable Small City in America by The U.S. Conference of Mayors.  This marks the second time in three years that Hattiesburg has been named Most Livable City in the United States.  The award recognizes mayoral leadership in developing and implementing programs that improve the quality of life.  The City was recognized because of its Hattiesburg Reads program.  This program allows restaurants throughout Hattiesburg to place age-appropriate books throughout their facility for children to read during their visit.  The Hattiesburg Reads program was established by the city through relationships built with people throughout the community – Area Development Partnership, Excel by 5, The University of Southern Mississippi, and William Carey University.  The Hub City was also awarded two Mississippi Municipal League Awards – a City Spirit award for the 2017 tornado restoration and a Public Safety award for the transitioning of the homeless.
