Serving 19 counties, Forrest General Hospital and Wesley Medical Center serve as a base to make Greater Hattiesburg the medical hub for Southern Mississippi.  Additionally, Hattiesburg is home to Hattiesburg Clinic, the largest multi-specialty clinic in the State of Mississippi.  The Hub City boasts a strong ratio of physicians to citizens, offering 333 physicians per 100,000 citizens, compared to the national average of 271 physicians.  According to 2009 Census estimates, Greater Hattiesburg has a specialist to resident ratio of 1 General Practitioner for every 1,724 residents, compared to the national ratio of 1 for every 3,065 residents.
