In addition to state and local tax incentives, there are a plethora of workforce training programs that involve pre-employment testing and screening and payroll rebate programs.
Pearl River Community College(PRCC) and Jones County Junior College (JCJC)
The local community and junior colleges provide tremendous services to businesses in relation to hiring and training. One service is pre-employment testing to screen applicants. The community colleges use the WorkKeys CRC testing system, which is an ACT based test that determines the participants’ abilities in math, reading and locating information.
Companies can also be reimbursed for select costs associated with instructors’ time in teaching requested courses. In addition to working with companies with customized training, PRCC and JCJC also provide OSHA , CPR and first aid training. PRCC and JCJC work with companies to bring in certified trainers to help companies with programs like LEAN manufacturing, CAD and other similar programs. Basic software training is also available.
WIN Job Center (WJC)
The WIN Job Center is a strong partner with the local community colleges and our economic development team when it comes to helping new and existing companies with pre-employment screening, e-verify and payroll rebate training programs. A company works with WJC to determine qualifications employees need to have for specific jobs. WJC will then screen applicants and only send qualified applicants to community college partners for pre-employment testing.
WJC's On-the-Job-Training (OJT) is a wage reimbursement program for new and expanding companies whose employees are undergoing training. Companies with qualifying employees (salaries under $43,000) will be reimbursed 50% of the employees’ wages for up to 6 months or 1,040 hours pending funding availability. The WJC also offers companies the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) Program, which provides businesses with a federal tax credit of up to $9,000/employee over two years for new hires from nine targeted groups of job seekers.
